How to be Happy when the world is going to shit around you.
How it is possible to be happy when the world seems to be collapsing around us?
I asked my own coach this as I was reading her book on manifestation. Within manifestation (The Secret, Pam’s 16 Seconds and others), there is a knowing that you get what you attract. If you are feeling down in the dumps, the Universe gives you more of that (and visa versa).
I asked this question in relation to my children. If your child is unhappy, how can you ensure you keep yourself at a level where you do not attract more sadness into your life. It is a conundrum.
Of course, now there is war to consider too and the pain that many thousands of people are having to endure.
I know a lot of people are watching the news all day and really worrying. It is understandable, the way it was with Covid. But how does it help and what can you do instead?
I received a message today telling me about a young man who has decided to get in his van and go and help. I am not surprised, he has always talked about making a difference in the world and here he is, stepping up and taking action.
But not all of us are equipped to do that. We have children to look after, jobs to continue with and our own lives to lead.
It is very tempting just to stop living. To use war as an excuse to not follow our dreams. Why should we be happy when the rest of the world is not?
Again, I would ask, what good would us being unhappy do for the world?
So, when I was struggling with how to be happy when my children were not, I did a bit of research.

Simple tools to help you raise your happiness.
The first thing I had to acknowledge was that me being miserable was not going to help the situation. It was not going to create an atmosphere that would help anyone at home.
Next, I decided to notice when I did feel good. When I go for a walk and the blossom is coming out. When I see a bird, when the sky is blue or the daffodil is shining yellow in the grey rain. When I see these things I feel good. When I feel good, I pay close attention to the feeling. I feel my chest expand and my head lift.
Think of someone or something you love
When we think of people we love (or hobbies we love doing), it helps to raise our sense of wellbeing. Spend 5 minutes focussing on someone you love. Take deep breaths deep into your tummy and wallow in the feelings of love and happiness that come to you.
Notice your body language when you feel bad and change it.
Body language makes all the difference to how we are feeling. If we feel rubbish, we tend to hunch up and make ourselves small. We round our shoulders and cross our arms. See how different you feel when you put your shoulders back, lift your head up, stand tall and smile.
Even if you don’t feel like smiling, you will feel better.
Mel Robbins morning routine
Put your hand on your heart before you get out of bed and say “I am OK, I am safe, I am loved”.
Give yourself a high five in the mirror.
Brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand, think of all the things you are grateful for.
Make the bed.
Lay out your exercise clothes so you just put them on.

If you are ready to start taking part in your own life, book a free introductory call.
How can an Introductory Call benefit me?
I know (as someone with introvert tendencies), having a call may feel like the last thing in the world you would want to do. I know that feeling of staring at the phone thinking, I really want to do something but this feels very scary. In all honesty, I still feel the same for a second when the phone starts to ring!
The reason it is important is that we need to know if we want to work with each other. This works 2 ways.
Building a relationship where you feel confident enough to tackle some deep issues with me starts here. Before you part with any money, before you commit to 3, 6 or 12 months deep work, we both need to know it's the right thing for you.
Because I understand how hard it is, booking the introductory call via the website creates the whole initial link. You get the meeting time you want, you receive the zoom link and reminders and then, when the time comes, we have an informal chat about what you want out of all of this. I will guide you the whole way and during this first call, we will already begin to design the life you want.
