I Found A Message In A Bottle!
My friend and I found a message in a bottle, on a local beach when I was just 10…
The thrill of the unknown, Who could have sent it?
Where did they send it from?
The note inside had a number to call, it was local, so perhaps not as exciting as we hoped.
The message belonged to a girl from the next village. She had thrown it out on a school trip, a long way out to sea, nowhere near where we found it. Yet it made it’s way back home.
This is not the end of the story though.
What was to follow was something that still baffles me now.
Some months later, I was on holiday with my family in Spain. I was swimming in the pool and, you know when you are a kid on holiday and you want to make friends, but you don’t really have the confidence, you are not quite sure what to do, you don’t even know if the nice looking kid swimming next to you speaks English, and you certainly don’t speak Spanish.
It was probably my first memory of building rapport.Up and down the pool, matching pace, glancing over, smiling, moving closer together as we swam in unison.
I was drawn to this girl like a magnet. I remember it so clearly. That fizzle of excitement as you make a connection.
Eventually we started chatting. We went to meet her parents. We realised we lived close to each other. “I don’t suppose you know Jenny and Sarah?” she asked.
“I’m Jenny!” I replied, still very puzzled as to why this girl in Spain knew my surname.
I’m sure you have guessed by now, this was the same girl who’s message I had found!!!
We spent a perfect fortnight together, becoming firm friends. We ended up in the same high school for a year before I moved to Scotland.
So, why am I telling you this story?
The Universe is full of amazing, wonderful things we don’t know about.
Things happen that are just beyond explanation.
If all these amazing things are possible without even trying, just imagine what is possible when you take real action.
We helped in creating this magic.
We could have found the bottle and thrown it in the bin.
I could have seen the girl in the pool and been too shy to talk.
I wonder how many magical moments are missed in life because you held yourself back?
