Life Choices - Life is a RollerCoaster
What are you putting off in life because you are reluctant to join the queue but, if you did, eventually you will get that sense of fun, courage and feel as if you are flying through life?
Standing in a queue for an hour to go on a rollercoaster in the theme park, rain pouring down, feet squelching in my shoes is not my first idea of fun. It’s always the same at a theme park, hours of queuing for moments of thrill, yet thousands of people do it. I avoid going too often, the first time we went I complained a whole week before. The poor girls, it was like they were dragging me to a tooth extraction. So imagine their surprise (and delight) when I joined them on even the largest rollercoasters and LOVED it. I had simply forgotten how much fun it was. Of course, the next time we go the girls are no longer fooled by my complaining. They remind me how much I love it. I still don’t love the queuing and especially not in the rain, but the thrill of those 1.5 minutes, feeling like you are flying, makes it worthwhile.
Life is a bit like that. We spend a lot of time meandering along, avoiding the path we see as long and boring, and then some of us decide to join the queue.
The sense of fun and bonding with my children stays with me for a long time after and actually, the queue is what you make it. The girls love the anticipation. They play games, chat, bug each other. I listen to podcasts and audio books. There is a sense of camaraderie with the other riders (even with social distancing). In some ways, it’s a nice guaranteed hour where I can’t do much else, but I can learn and chat to the kids.
